Change through awareness
Normalize Menstruation
A project aimed at spreading awareness about sustainable menstruation and destigmatizing menstruation.
The Red Lotus advocates for the ideals
of sustainable menstruation and the proper disposal of menstrual waste. We
believe not only in breaking through the stigma that shrouds menstruation, but
also in respecting the rights of sanitation workers, menstruators, and the
environment.

Reducing Over 80Kg of plastic waste.
The Red Lotus
Our Objective
The Red Lotus works with sanitation workers and local NGOs to produce our packets, a cost-efficient and biodegradable way to ensure the proper disposal of menstrual waste. In tandem, we also organize awareness sessions and educational programs to allow menstruators an opportunity to explore sustainable period products and sensitize non-menstruators with regards to the problem. We work with educational institutions to host webinars to introduce younger menstruators to the objective of sustainable menstruation, and in this way, ensure an all-encompassing impact.
Impact
To date, we have organized more than 30 distribution drives for our packets across 10 states, in total distributing approximately 8000 packets among 1500 menstruators. We estimate that by doing so, we have reduced 80 kg of plastic waste from India’s landfills and cut down on 0.25 kg CO2 equivalent from being produced. We have also worked with organizations such as the ADIRA Foundation and GiveHer5, and have hosted webinars with The Choice School, Mumbai University, and Mahatma Gandhi University. In our journey, The Red Lotus has grown from an organization of 3 individuals to one now composed of 12.
